Café Bohío

Jaco Beach Café

Located at the intersection of the main street in Jacó, Avenida Pastor Díaz, and Calle Bohío, is our first and only coffee shop. Where Orange Pub, Cafe Bohío, and the cell phone store currently operate, there used to be a restaurant, Tabacón. During the recession, Tabacón closed. Unsuccessful at renting the large building, Juan Calderon divided the area into three smaller spaces. Two of the spaces went up for rent and one space was kept for an idea that was brewing- a coffee shop. At the time, the Calderon family was already roasting and packaging coffee; a place to serve the freshly roasted coffee was all that was needed.

Rewind...

Ubaldo Díaz and the Díaz family were amongst the first settlers in Jacó. Living in huts, they occupied the land located along what is now Calle Bohío. Ubaldo had a daughter, Yorleni. As a wedding gift to Yorleni and Juan Calderon, Ubaldo gave them land. Part of the land that was gifted is where the coffee shop and the roastery are currently located.

Back to 2012...

When thinking of a name for the coffee shop, it only seemed fit to include the man that made all of this possible, Ubaldo Díaz. Bohío, Spanish for hut, was home to him and is now home for us!
