Homemade Coconut Milk
You will need:
- 3-4 coconuts
- Filtered water
- Nut Milk Bag (What is that?)
- Food Processor
- Coconut Grater Tool (What is that?)
This is the most difficult step. Open the coconuts using a machete, concrete floor/wall, or some other hard object, and grate the white meat. In order to do this, you might need a coconut grater, link above.
Weigh the grated meat.
Put into the food processor and add an equal amount of water. For example: 400 grams of meat means adding 400 grams of water.
Blend the coconut meat and water for 1-2 minutes.
Filter the coconut milk through a Nut Milk Bag. Extremely important: squeeze the bag until the coconut is dry.
You have your coconut milk! We have not had much luck with storing this in the refrigerator as is. Soooooo...
Pour the coconut milk into ice cube trays. Freeze. Store the coconut cubes in a container. This way, the coconut milk will not go bad and you will be able to use as wanted.
When ready to use:
You can blend the coconut cubes with some Cold Brew (see our blog on how to make a Bohío Style).
You can heat a few cubes over the stove on super low heat.
You can leave a few cubes out until liquified.
SO MANY OPTIONS!
*This recipe will yield enough for around 3 trays of cubes (~36 cubes).
